PCPA announces its annual Championship

PCPA-logoPakistan Chess Players Association (PCPA) is going to conduct its "2nd PCPA-Zahiruddin Farooqui Open Chess Championship" from February 02-05, 2012 at Karachi in which players from all Pakistan will take part as last year. This will be a rapid tournament, where a player will be alloted less than 60 minutes to finish the game.

PCPA offficials have decided to make it a FIDE Rapid rated tournament, as The FIDE Executive Board meeting in Krakow approved the launch of "Rapid" and "Blitz" rating lists in 2012. All FIDE rating fees for these have been waived during 2012. Mr. Shahzad Mirza IM, secretary general PCPA, told us “We have requested Chess Federation of Pakistan to co-operate with us in this regard”

“This year we have invited Grand Master Nigel Short from England, he had kindly accepted our invitation and he is expected to reach Pakistan as our “guest of Honor” on February 04, 2012. He will also give a simultaneous display against students of different schools, colleges and universities. “ he added.

To attract a meaningful number of FIDE rated players will be the final challenge for the organizers, as If an unrated player scores less than 1 point, or plays fewer than 3 rated opponents in his first rated event, his score is disregarded.

Details of the event will be published soon after we receive it.
