Syed Javed Hashmi has won Pakpattan district chess champion 2012 which was held from 15-16 January at RACO school & college near Machli chowk Pakpattan. He scored 5 points to win the title, while Mansoob Ahmad Shah, Shoaib Aslam and umer Farooq got second, third and fourth place respectively with 4 points each. With this Javed Hashmi and Mansoob shah has qualified for the punjab Chess Championship 2012 which is going to be held from 7-11 March at Grace Hotel Lahore.
The championship was organized by Pakpattan District Chess Association (PDCA) in which 20 players from different part of the district took part. Prof. Rana Tariq Aziz, Principal Govt. Faridia Post Graduate College and President Pakpattan District Chess Association was the chief guest of the closing ceremony. While addressing on the ocassion he announced a BIG event "PAKPATTAN OPEN" in the end of this March with a prize funf of Rs.100,000 and with a total budget of Rs.200,000. He announced Rs.50,000 contribution from his own pocket. "Being the President of PDCA and a lover of the game of chess I shall try my best to collect rest of the money as I believe we can't have a haelthy and peaceful society without sports" he said. In the end all the participants thanked him for serving/ supporting chess activities in Pakpattan.
